LOCATION
With 315 days of sun, 300 beaches, around 1800km coastline and some of the very best European waves, Portugal is regarded as one of the top destinations for surfers and everyone loving the sun and the ocean.
The Algarve is seen as the "balcony to Africa". Right here, the Atlantic created one of the most beautiful and diversified coastlines of the world. Miles long beaches take turn with picturesque creeks, romantic lagoons, bizarre rock formation and rugged cliffs. 3000 hours of sunshine a year make this region not only a paradise for sun-lovers but - thanks to brilliant waves - also for surfers, no matter if beginner or pro.
Amidst this sunny south of Portugal between Praia da Luz and Praia do Burgau, you can find a small and cosy colony called Cama da Vaca. Belonging to Lagos, this is where our freistil surfhouse is situated.
From our surfhouse in Cama da Vaca, it's only a 300m walk to the ocean. In view of the very pretty bays and the impressive cliff-scenery every nature lover and romanticists will definitely get his money worth. These "secret spots" guarantee perfect relaxation and unforgettable natural spectacles. Bemvindo to the Algarve - where textbook-sunsets become real.
Around our freistil surfhouse there is a lot to discover. Beside a great number of extraordinary surfspots, the environment offers almost everything to make your holiday exceptional: snorkelling, horse-riding, go-kart, paintball, aquapark, golf, sailing, kite surfing, skating, cliff jumping or fishing - for active guests, there seem to be endless opportunities.
For those who prefer relaxation over action, we recommend some more contemplative activities like whale- or dolphin-watching, open sea trips, a grotto visit or a shopping tour through Lagos.
Lagos, 7 km away, also invites its visitors to an exciting nightlife. Various bars and clubs wait to be "partied". A common taxi ride only costs around 2,50 Euro per person.
The closest shopping facilities can be found in Burgos, 1,5 km away - easily approachable within walking distance. In Luz, 2km away from the surfhouse, you can also run your errands.
BOARD & LODGING
The freistil surfhouse at the Algarve spoils you with all the comfort you need to recreate and relax. Thanks to its unique position and all its amenities, the exclusiveness of our surfhouse is beyond doubt.
Guests will be accommodated in cosy double bedrooms (either with a double bed or two single beds) - there's no shared rooms for more than two persons. Due to this fact, even the most romantic guests will be more than pleased.
Furthermore, two spacious lounges and a swimming pool are counted among the premises of the surfhouse. In addition, you are provided with highlights like a PC, a dartboard, table top soccer, tennis and basketball court, ping pong table, TV and DVD player including various DVDs. As you can see, you will want for nothing!
We also take good care of your physical well-being. A qualified chef prepares a generous breakfast buffet offering all you need for an extra of power (with a selection of cold cuts, cheese, salad, bread, juices, sweet spread, scrambled eggs and cereals). After an exhausting day at the ocean, a culinary delight in form of a 3-4 course menu will definitely make your day. It#s understood that we keep vegetarians in mind. Once a week, we will organize a BBQ night par excellence. To enhance the great pleasure of the dinner, our chef will recommend a number of regional wines.
A little hint for everyone arriving earlier or planning to leave later than the bookable date: extended stays (additional days) are possible on agreement. Please feel free to contact the freistil office.
SURF CLASSES
Thanks to all-season terrific weather and wave conditions, the Algarve is reckoned one of the best surf spots in Europe. A great many spots of all kinds make this region incomparably appropriate for all levels of surfers. Beginner, advanced or pro - there will be the perfect wave for everyone.
It's the combination of wonderful summer and epic winter waves that gives the Algarve its excellent constancy regarding very good surf conditions. Have fun surfing!
Surf class (beginner or advanced, depending on the number of participants)
5 days 10am-6pm (theory and practice)
Licensed surf instructors that have been surfing at the Algarve their whole life long teach you in English and give you a detailed understanding of surfing as sport and life style.
You will be trained at various spots. You are invited to check out various spots in the surrounding in order to improve your skills or to just experience different breaks.
By agreement with our surf teachers, you can also use the given surf equipment during off-class hours (however, for beginners this offer is only valid after the 3rd/4th day of surfing!).
Your surfday starts around 10am. After finding the spot with the best waves you will be taught in different sessions. Between the sessions you can snack on ice cream, grilled fish, cold drinks or sandwiches offered by one of the beach bars...just to be fit for the next surf. Depending on weather and wave conditions you will be back at the surf resort between 6 - 8pm where a delicious dinner waits to be eaten.
SURFING WITHOUT SURF CLASSES
Everyone that has either already taken part in an appropriate surf course or that has sufficient experience with surfing, we provide with a broad spotguide-service. This informative service (no spot shuttle!) includes daily analysis of accordant weather and sea charts as to inform you about where to find the best waves of the day and how to get there. There's always perfect waves for all levels of surfers and we'll make you find them with your own car. As a matter of fact, for all guests of the freistil surf resort, this service is free of charge.
SURF MATERIAL
For the time of your surf class, you will be equipped with a long-sleeved Billabong wetsuit and a BIC Surfboard. On the spot, we have a wide range of BIC surf boards (6'7" - 9'4"). Thus, even if you bring your own material, there won't be any problem with trying out one of our boards. Those who already attended surf lessons are invited to lend the accordant material.
HOW TO GET THERE
The closest airport is situated in Faro (FAO), around 90km away. (see auxiliary services for information about our airport-shuttle). There's also an airport at Lisbon (LIS). After a short bus/taxi/metro ride you can easily get to the bus station "sete rios". From here, there#s busses heading for Lagos almost hourly. The tour takes 3h15min. Once you arrived in Lagos, we can pick you up gratuitously. Please don't forget to inform us about your exact time of arrival.
Tip: when arriving at and leaving from Lisbon, why don't you spend 1-2 days at one of the most beautiful and exciting capitals of Europe?
There's also the possibility to find low priced flights to Spanish airports like Sevilla (SVQ), Jerez(XRY) and Malaga (AGP) and then use coaches to get to Lagos. This might be the more complicate alternative to get to the surf house but if you are lucky, you can grab a real low-cost-carrier bargain!
